Merseyside’s Police and Crime Commissioner Jane Kennedy will be attending an organised fireworks event to help encourage people to celebrate Bonfire Night safely.

The event in Simonswood Lane playing fields, Kirkby, sees a display taking place at 7.30pm. The evening’s entertainment has been organised by the Safer Knowsley Partnership including Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service.

Merseyside Police Commissioner Jane Kennedy said: “Bonfire Night is a wonderful opportunity for communities across Merseyside to get together and have fun, but it is vital that people enjoy it safely. That is why it is so important that people attend organised events.

“I’m really looking forward to attending the event in Simonswood Lane playing fields in Kirkby organised by the Safer Knowsley Partnership. I am sure it will be a spectacular display and I hope people across Knowsley will come down to enjoy it too.”

Group Manager Gary Oakford, Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service district manager for Knowsley, said: “It should be a fantastic event with firefighters and staff volunteers from Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service being helped by partners including Merseyside Police, Knowsley Council and KHT to stage the event.

"Road closures will be in place by 6.30pm for public safety and we urge people to try to be at the location for this spectacular free display by 7.15pm on November 5.

“We would also advise people not to bring any fireworks or sparklers to the event, not to bring any alcohol to the event. People should also wear appropriate footwear and not leave children unsupervised. Please also ensure pets are left at home and please co-operate with organisers and safety officials’ guidance.”

Fireworks are only allowed to be sold by retailers with a registration from the Fire Service. This is also only during the period of October 15th to November 10th.
