Jane Kennedy, Police Commissioner for Merseyside, today visited the Strand Shopping Centre in Bootle to meet with local officers who were educating shoppers on how to spot cannabis farms as part of Cannabis Action Week.

Merseyside Police is working with independent charity, Crimestoppers, to raise awareness of the growing problem of cannabis cultivation across the county, including sending out ‘scratch and sniff cards’ to residents in hotspot areas, designed to replicate the smell of cannabis in its growing state.

Jane Kennedy said, “I welcome Cannabis Action Week; this is a growing problem that has direct links to serious and organised crime and I would ask anyone who has suspicions about properties in their area being used in such a way to tell the police or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
