The independent Charity Crimestoppers are holding a ‘Communitea’ event in Bootle to celebrate 30 years since the charity was formed.

They are inviting people for a cuppa and a chat to find out about how they can speak up about crime, 100% anonymously and to thank them for their support in helping them make Merseyside safer. The event is being supported by the region's Police and Crime Commissioner, Jane Kennedy, who is among the speakers.

This year has been a record year for information received by Crimestoppers in Merseyside with 6230 pieces intelligence both online and by phone from the public, up 12% on last year.

Over £1,000,000 of drugs were seized as a result of this information, 445 pieces of intelligence were received on weapons and 200 on murder.

Crimestoppers Merseyside Chair, Colin Mathews, said: “Organising events is a great way for Crimestoppers to build support in the community, and spread the message about the important service we provide.

“In 30 years we have never broken our promise to the community that we will never reveal the identity of anyone who contacts us. We are 100% anonymous.

“I am delighted that the PCC Jane Kennedy is able to join us today, as the support of her office, our partner agencies and the community is vital to our success”.

Police and Crime Commissioner Jane Kennedy said: “I congratulate Crimestoppers on reaching this milestone anniversary in what has been a record year in terms of the number of intelligence reports the charity has been able to provide to Merseyside Police

“Crimestoppers provides a really important avenue for people to give information to the police, anonymously and in complete confidence, helping the force to investigate more crime and bring offenders to justice.

“I would encourage people to come along to this Communitea event and find out more about the excellent work which is being done and how you can support it.”
