Merseyside's Police Commissioner will today meet with students to discuss issues around policing and community safety as part of her on-going commitment to listen to their concerns.
After taking office, Jane Kennedy pledged to meet representatives from the Students’ Unions at all three of Liverpool’s universities every term.
Today, representatives from Liverpool John Moores University, the University of Liverpool and Hope University will gather at the Commissioner's office for their regular catch up.
The Commissioner will take the opportunity to listen to their concerns and views and find out more about what steps she can take to support and protect Liverpool's student community.
On the agenda for this meeting are the Commissioner's Annual Report for 2015/16, introductions to the new student union representatives and their roles and to plan a programme for the year ahead.
Jane said: "I am committed to listening to the needs of all the communities in Merseyside and that includes those young people who have chosen Liverpool as a place to study and live.
“The city is lucky to have a very vibrant student community who actively participate in the development of the region and I want to ensure any young people that come to the area to study feel safe here.
“These regular discussions are an excellent opportunity to listen to students’ concerns and get their feedback on work that is underway. They help to inform the decisions I make to ensure Merseyside continues to be a safe and enjoyable place for those young people who choose to call the region home.”
As part of her commitment to listening to the concerns of young people, the Commissioner has also formed a Youth Advisory Group. The group is made up of a diverse mix of young people from a variety of backgrounds who will meet regularly to ensure the Commissioner understands their concerns and listens to what they want from the criminal justice system.
